FC Winterthur is a professional football club based in Winterthur, Switzerland. The club was founded in 1896 and has a long history in Swiss football. FC Winterthur plays home matches at the 8250-capacity Stadion Schützenwiese.
The club has previously competed in the Swiss Super League, which is the top tier of Swiss football, but currently plays in the Swiss Challenge League – the second tier of Swiss football. FC Winterthur has won the Swiss Cup once in their history, in 1968.
The team's current manager is Ralf Loose and the current captain is midfielder Armando Sadiku. Notable former players include Swiss international goalkeeper Diego Benaglio and current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who played for the club in the 1990s.
The club's official colours are royal blue and white. The team has a strong rivalry with local club FC Wil, with whom they contest the 'Eastern Derby'.
